We currently have openings for the Strong Beginnings (Pre-K program. 

Child, Youth & School Services (CYSS) provides enriching environments for Fort McCoy's youth.  CYSS programs are designed to meet all the individual and developmental needs of the whole child and promote and support each individual's physical, social, emotional, cognitive, creative, and language development.  CYSS seeks to meet the needs of the Fort McCoy community by providing full day, hourly, and school age services.  Parents are encouraged to attend the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings held the second Thursday of Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, and Nov at 11:15 am.

Parent Central Services
(Ages 0-18) - Offers registration, enrollment, records transfer, parent education classes, babysitting training, and referral services for Families.  Includes CYS Services, Parent Advisory Council, non-traditional Outreach Services, and Parents on Site Volunteer Program.  Provides information, sends Enews publications and messages, and contributes to websites of interest to parents.

Program Fees
Annual registration fee of $18 per child, with a maximum family rate of $40 per year. 
Until further notice, registration fees are currently being provided at no cost to patrons through Army Family Covenant funds.  Payments are on a sliding fee scale, which is based on Total Family Income.  Payments are due monthly on the first of the month or semi-monthly on the first and 15th.

Eligibility
Active duty military, Appropriated Fund (APF) or Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) DoD civilian personnel, Reservists and National Guard personnel on active duty or during inactive duty training, and DoD contractors.

Trained Staff
CYSS Staff is certified in CPR and First Aid and possess extensive knowledge concerning child abuse issues.  Many of the staff have or are attending college for degrees in education.

Child Development Services
The Child Development Center has been reaccredited for the 4th consecutive time by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and provides child care services for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years.  For additional information, please call 388-2238.

Strong Beginnings 4K
The Fort McCoy Child Development Center currently has space in the Strong Beginnings Program for the 2010-11 school year.  The program is designed to prepare pre-kindergartners for kindergarten.  It focuses on classroom management skills, as well math and literacy.  Children must turn 4 years old on or before Sep 1.  The Strong Beginnings class is from 8:30 – 11:30 am with wrap around care available.  For more information please call x2238/to register call x8956.   

School-Age Services
School Age Services (SAS) is located in Building 1751 and provides after school care for youth in Kindergarten through 5th grade.  A full-day summer program operates June - August and the after-school program is available during the school year.  Full day care is offered on non-school days.  SAS is accredited by The National AfterSchool Association (NAA).  A unique part of our program is that we are a Boys & Girls Club and 4-H Club.  This enables SAS to utilize both programs' resources and programs.  The Army also adopted the Character Counts! program, which focuses on promoting good character in youth of all ages.  The six pillars are Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.  There are four service areas that our program revolves its daily activity  plans around and they are as follows:

  1. Sports, Fitness, & Health
  2. Life Skills, Citizenship, & Leadership
  3. Arts, Recreation, & Leisure
  4. Mentoring, Intervention, & Education Support

Philosophy

  • Meet the individual and developmental needs of the whole child and youth.
  • Promote and support each child's physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and creative development.
  • Encourage parents to participate in their child and/or youth's program.

After School Program
This program is offered for youth in Kindergarten through 5th grade.  We pick up youth at designated schools in Tomah and Sparta.  An afternoon snack is provided.  During the school year, many activities are planned at the local MWR facilities, such as bowling, swimming, and using the gym.

Non-School Days
SAS is open on non-school days and when school is let out due to inclement weather or early dismissal.  SAS follows the Sparta and Tomah public school calendars for non-school days.  Parents are responsible for providing transportation to the program on these days.  Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack are provided.

Summer Camp
This program is offered June-August for youth who have completed Kindergarten through 5th grade that school year.  Weekly field trips include water parks, roller-skating, boat tours and Robot World in the Dells, plus more!  Sports and Recreation Programs offered are Little Brewers (K-2nd grade), Swimming and much more!  Daily clubs are offered within the Four Services Areas such as Art, Science, Drama, Cooking, Safety, Healthy Habits and Citizenship.

Middle School/Teen (MS/T) Youth Program
Provides after-school, non-school day activities, and summer camp for youth in grades 6-12.  Programs are based on four service areas to enhance development of youth into prospering adults.  4-H and B&G Club programs are also a component of the program.  The Middle School/Teen Program is open Mon-Fri from 3:30-5:30 pm during the school year and from 1-5:30 pm during the summer.  A morning program is available during the summer for a fee.  The MS/T program is open at additional times for special events.  There is no charge for MS/T during the school year.  We pick up youth at designated schools in Tomah and Sparta.  For more information, please call 608-388-4373.
