Financial Readiness

Our Mission: The Financial Readiness Program supports Commanders in maintaining unit financial readiness to sustain deployments by educating and counseling with service members and families on financial self-sufficiency.

Service Eligibility: Program services are available to active duty, retired, and reserve service members from all branches of the armed forces, their eligible family members, and Department of Defense civilian employees.

The Financial Readiness Program offers a wide range of services to assist soldiers, family members and civilian employees with their financial affairs.  The program offers training and counseling.  The training program covers many consumer issues.

Financial Readiness helps Soldiers and families formulate a basic plan, which provides for a comfortable lifestyle yet allows for the opportunity to develop a sense of financial stability.  We can assist in preparing a working family spending plan.  For those who are experiencing or anticipate financial difficulties, we offer one-on-one counseling.  If you’re thinking about making a major financial decision or purchase, we may be able to offer some guidance.

The budget counseling program can either be self-referred or command directed.  The program is designed to help Soldiers pay off their debts by working with their creditors.  If clients are self-referred, their records are considered to be confidential and protected.

Financial Readiness also assists clients with consumer complaints by being an advocate for the consumer by attempting to negotiate a workable solution between the consumer and the vendor.  Individual counseling sessions can be scheduled for advice on any consumer issue such as making a major purchase, bankruptcy or starting an IRA to name a few.

The Financial Readiness Program is designed to educate Soldiers on their rights as consumers.  The goal is to enlighten Soldiers and their families on procedures used in business, business transactions they should stay away from and how to know when they are being taken advantage of.

Consumer Affairs is designed to inform Soldiers about their rights as consumers; assist with consumer and product related complaints; and increases their ability to perform as an informed consumer.  We also provide the latest information from the Wisconsin Attorney General’s Office on Lawsuits and Settlements reached on behalf of Wisconsin consumers.

It is highly recommended you call for an appointment, to ensure you are eligible for services and a counselor is readily available to assist you.

The Financial Readiness Manager also provides AER Assistance on Fort McCoy.

For more information in scheduling training or to set up an appointment in any of these areas, call ACS at (608) 388-2412 or e-mail Army Community Service.
